HEINEKEN FUTURE BOTTLE

GLOBAL WINNER OF THE
HEINEKEN 140th ANNIVERSARY
FUTURE BOTTLE COMPETITION

THE BRIEF

To mark their upcoming 140th anniversary, Heineken created a global competition to design a limited edition bottle of the future.

Heineken has been connecting people all over the world for the past 140 years, the brief was to create a new bottle
design which symbolises how we may be connecting in another 140 years time.

After uploading your design, you had to then pair it with another designer from anywhere in the world to enter.

MY DESIGN

For the past 140 years we have been connecting
all around the world, from the great explorers to
the present day, with the invention of technology.

As the world gets smaller and our global population
rises I believe the need for further exploration and
adventure will grow. This may lead to the exploration
of new planets, which we may inhabit in the future.

My design captures how we may connect in another
140 years time. Some other brands have already
started exploring this ie. Virgin Galactic.

The Heineken 'red star' represents our planet
with another 139 stars forming a galaxy to represent
new planets we might connect with in the future.

My design is paired with Rodolfo Kusulas
of Monterry, Mexico. His design uses the earth's
continents to form the Heineken 'red star'.

There is an interesting connection of how Rodolfo's
design represents how our planet connects, and my
design represents how we may connect to other
planets in the future...

THE JUDGING

The final designs were presented to a panel of judges in New York. The judges were made up of...
Mark van Iterson - Global Head of Design at Heineken International, Amsterdam.
Evan Orensten - Co-founder and Executive Editor of Cool Hunting, New York.
Mark Dytham - Co-founder of global creative network, PechaKucha, Tokyo.

THE LAUNCH

Our design co-creation will be
produced and sold globally on
over 1.2 million bottles.

Our future bottle design will feature
in a special edition gift-pack alongside
the past and present Heineken bottles.

Within 24 hours after the winners
were announced, our design featured
on hundreds of design industry blogs,
including coolhunting.com,
thedieline.com, popsop.com
and brandingmagazine.com

The whole idea of the competition
was to explore ‘how will we connect
in the future’, I believe that social
media will have a major role in this.
